HSE ICRT Holds Webinar at Maykop

HSE International Centre for Research and Teaching held a webinar at Maykop. Participants were the professors of Adyghe State University and Maykop State Technological University. The administration of ICPT talked about advanced training programmes, internships, and joint research opportunities.

HSE International Centre for Research and Teaching holds another webinar, this time at Adyghe State University. The management of Adyghe State University and Maykop State Technological University, deans, institutes’ directors, chairs, and professors took part in the event.

Webinar took place in Maykop on February 6. The event was moderated by Alexander Arkelov, vice-rector for education of Adyghe State University and Lydia Malygina, candidate of philology, promotion coordinator of HSE International Centre for Research and Teaching. ICRT was represented by Ilya Samonenko, head of the Centre, deputy dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, HSE University and Vladlen Timorin, academic supervisor of the Centre, dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, HSE University.

Ilya Samonenko talked about the International Centre for Research and Teaching teaching digital economy specialists.

“As part of the Digital Economy national programme, by the end of 2024, 10 million persons will have completed the advanced training courses for digital literacy. Another 120,000 people will have been admitted to IT higher education programmes. The International Centre for Research and Teaching starts its own education programmes in these fields. We develop innovative contents for teaching computer science, mathematics, and digital technologies. We take into account the state-of-the-art achievements in these fields and the skill needed by the industry today,” said the head of HSE ICRT.

Ilya Samonenko also pointed out that ICRT analyses the best practices of education in mathematics, computer science, and digital technologies in the world. Moreover, the Centre cooperates with professors, helping them to research in these fields. Ilya Samonenko added that university professors can take internships at the Centre, taking a research intern position in one of HSE University’s laboratories.

“Professors will be able to conduct researchers together with our experts. In case of a successful internship, they can apply to foreign internships”, concluded the head of the Centre.

Vladlen Timorin added that the representatives of HSE ICRT are ready to hold the field courses. “We are ready to come to different universities if more than fifteen professors and doctoral students apply,” explained the Centre’s academic supervisor.

He mentioned that the list of programmes is available on the webpage of the Centre. “This list, however, is not final. If some university is interested in other subjects, we are always ready to discuss it and try to find the necessary resources,” he added.

He also said that ICRT online courses are available to university professors. “These courses may be useful for professors who can find some tips there on teaching various subjects to students,” Timorin claimed.

The participating professors asked how to use the methodical materials for work with the students. Ilya Samonenko explained that ICRT has created a Subject Constructor. “The smallest unit of the constructor is a single task. Professors will receive access to the constructor and be able to create their own courses from these tasks,” Smonenko commented. He mentioned that these materials were used to teach the students of HSE University. These materials are divided into different levels, and professors can select those most suitable for their students.

Alexander Arakelov, the vice-rector for education of the Adyghe State University, asked if ICRT has advanced training courses for the scholars of humanities.

Ilya Samonenko answered that some of the programmes are suited for the scholars of humanities too. “It all depends on the purposes of professors. In one case, they want to acquire the basic Excel skills for data processing. In other cases, they may already have a grasp of mathematics and statistics. Then we can discuss the use of Python and our libraries for the processing of data. A professor of humanities should discuss the casу with us and then choose the programme,” said Samonenko.

Aydamir Stash, dean of the Department of Mathematics of Adyghe State University asked about the duration of the internship.

The Vice Dean has explained that a short-term internship is for a month, while a long-term one may last for up to six months. Participating professors will receive a salary to partly cover the cost of living in Moscow.

Vyacheslav Chundyshko, the head of the Department of Information Security and Applied Computer Science of Maykop State Technological University said that his department has experience of teaching digital literacy to professionals in different fields - medical professionals, teachers. “We have adjusted our programmes to suit every category of people who have been participating in them. We are ready to cooperate with HSE International Centre for Research and Teaching and share our experience,” he noted. Chundyshko also asked whether the Centre had any information security programmes.

Ilya Samonenko replied that there are such programmes. “Moreover, we are now preparing the digital security courses to be taught at the Centre,” he pointed out.

In the end, the professors of Adyghe State University and Maykop State Technological University expressed their gratitude to the representatives of HSE ICRT and assured of their desire to cooperate.
